Budget Vote & BOE Election Set for Tuesday in District Office:
Skaneateles, NY (May 20, 2019) – The Skaneateles Central School District’s Budget and Board of Education vote will take place on Tuesday, May 21 from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Skaneateles Central Schools District Office.
The SCS District Office is an accessible facility with accessible voting stations and voter assistance available if needed.
When attending the vote on Tuesday, May 21 voters are reminded to please use the main entrance of the SCS District Office. There will be reserved voter parking next to the building.
For ease of access voters are reminded to try and plan your visit around arrival and dismissal. Arrival times are between 8:20 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. with dismissals taking place between 3:00 and 3:30 p.m.

Skaneateles Seniors Volunteer at Sunshine Horses:
Skaneateles High School seniors recently spent the afternoon volunteering at Sunshine Horses in Clay, NY.
Students helped to dig trenches for electric, sanded and painted boards for fences and weeded around the house and main entrance.
"Thank you to the seniors from Skaneateles High School for spending the day with us. We couldn't do what we do without the support from our community" - from the Sunshine Horses Facebook page.
Sunshine Horses aims to help horses and help people by making a difference in the lives of horses in the Central New York area through rehabilitation, retraining and adoption.

Run for Fund$ Raises Money for Elementary PTC:
The annual Elementary PTC Run for Fund$ took place on Wednesday morning for all elementary grade levels on the Skaneateles High School track.
Each grade level ran independently on the track for as many as 20 minutes at a time, helping to raise funds for the Elementary Parent Teacher Committee. Miles the Dog joined students on track as blue skies and sunshine welcomed all participants.
The Run for Fund$ is the largest fundraising event for the Elementary PTC.
Before the Run for FUNd$ event took place, students were asked to seek sponsors. They brought a letter home and distributed it to their parents, relatives and friends.
The students aimed to challenge themselves to run a certain distance or to stay moving for a certain period of time.

SHS Recognized in US News High School Rankings:
SKANEATELES, NY (May 7, 2019) – The 2019 U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools rankings have been released with Skaneateles High School once again being recognized.
U.S. News & World Report revamped the national and state rankings methodology in 2019.
The new ranking methodology evaluates schools based on six indicators, including college readiness, college curriculum breadth, math and reading proficiency, math and reading performance, underserved student performance and graduation rate.
The highest-ranked schools are those whose students excelled on state tests and performed beyond expectations, participated in and passed a variety of college-level exams and graduated in high proportions

Vaping Awareness Night for Parents on June 13:
Skaneateles High School will be hosting a Vaping Awareness Night for Parents on Thursday, June 13 inside the SHS Auditorium, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Parents are urged to attend and experience the "Hidden Mischief" exhibit, which provides a walk throughout a simulated teen's bedroom filled with hidden drug and alcohol paraphernalia.
The evening will include the "Hidden Mischief" exhibit from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., a presentation on the impact of vaping on your children from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., followed by a panel discussion from 7:15 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

SHS Envirothon Team Qualifies for State Competition:
SKANEATELES, NY (May 1, 2019) – Skaneateles High School is once again sending a team to the New York State Envirothon competition to be held at Hobart & William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY on May 22-23.
The Envirothon competition tests students’ knowledge and understanding of natural resource issues within New York State. The spirit of competition is then used to help stimulate the students’ interests in environmental concerns and motivate them to further develop their skills and grow into environmentally-aware, action-oriented adults.

Three SCS Students Earn iD Tech Scholarships through SEF:
SKANEATELES, NY (April 29, 2019) – Three Skaneateles Central Schools students accepted iD Tech scholarships on Monday afternoon from the Skaneateles Education Foundation in partnership with the Elsa Allyn Soderberg Family Fund.
Eighth grader, Keady Azzam, and ninth graders, Ellie McSwain and Alex Moro, were presented with iD Tech scholarship certificates on Monday from Cristy Winkleman, Skaneateles Education Foundation Board President.
This scholarship provides tuition and room and board for each student to attend a week-long session at iD Tech Camp, the world’s #1 educational summer computer camp for kids and teens.

Laker Club Celebrates National Therapy Animal Day:
Today (April 30) is National Therapy Animal Day and the Laker Club is celebrating! The day will see a Laker Baker cake raffled off during lunches, as well as pictures taken with our own Therapy Dog, CoCo. Also, during AP today we are having Helping Hounds visit with a couple of puppies available for adoption and to receive the money raised during our raffle.

Second Graders Explore Habitats of the World:
SKANEATELES, NY (April 25, 2019) – Second grade students at Waterman Primary School had the opportunity to explore different habitats of the world on Thursday morning, as each second-grade classroom was transformed from desks and chairs into trees, rivers, deserts and waterfalls.
The classrooms of Jane O’Brien, Anthony Pignatti, Kim Ward and Joanne Williams were masterfully turned into desert, pond, rainforest and woodland forest habitats, providing students a chance to experience, explore and learn about each in a truly interactive manner.

Rigling Class Debuts YouTube Channel:
M rs. Rigling's third grade class at State Street Elementary School debuted their all-new Rigling Class YouTube Channel on Friday, April 12.
The decided to create their YouTube channel after watching other videos created by children. They started with sharing the character strengths of the Positivity Project and plan to add other videos in the future to tell the community about their school and fun things they like to do.

Third Graders Visit HS Hydroponics Lab:
SKANEATELES, NY (April 12, 2019) – Cross-curricular opportunities are a fantastic avenue for students to work with other students, and in this case learn about courses that could be in their future.
Earlier this week, third grade students from State Street Intermediate School visited Scott Stagnitta’s high school hydroponics class, where they received a personal lesson from high school students on hydroponics.

Anna Selected to All-Eastern Mixed Choir in Pittsburgh:
SKANEATELES, NY (April 9, 2019) – Skaneateles High School senior, Madeline Anna, recently returned from a trip to Pittsburgh, PA, where she was selected to participate in the All-Eastern Mixed Choir, conducted by Rollo Dilworth.
The All-Eastern Mixed Choir is part of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) Conference, which is among the world’s largest arts education organizations.

Student Artwork to be Featured in Baltimore Woods Student Art Exhibit:
SKANEATELES, NY (April 2, 2019) – Several students from Skaneateles Central Schools will have artwork displayed as a part of the Baltimore Woods Nature Center Student Art Exhibit from May 4-May 24.
Artwork from students Kelly Goldberger, Emma Whipple and Claire Neumann will be featured in the exhibit.
An artist reception will be held on Saturday, May 4 from 3-4 p.m. with a ceremony at 3:15 p.m. to celebrate the achievements of the students.

Boys Lacrosse Coach Ron Doctor Earns 500th Career Victory:
Through the near four-decade history of the Skaneateles boys lacrosse program there has been one constant - Ron Doctor. The Lakers first and only head coach in Lakers history captured his 500th career win Monday as his team improved to 2-0 this spring with a 13-8 defeat of Homer.
