Steven M. Krause Scholarship Fund
Steven M. Krause was born and raised in Skaneateles, NY. Steve was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an 18-year partner at the architectural firm of QPK Design of Syracuse. Steve enjoyed life and was deeply devoted to his family and friends. He always had a ready smile, a hearty laugh and was quick to share a good (or not so good) joke. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved skiing, canoeing, whitewater rafting, hiking and camping in the Adirondacks. He shared his love of the outdoors with the Skaneateles Boy Scout Troop 61, where he served as a scoutmaster for three years and where he earned his Eagle Scout award as a youth. His leadership and guidance had a direct positive influence on numerous scouts over the years. Steve was a tremendously giving person. He was always free to share his time and talents with those who needed it. He was always available to lend a hand when theatre sets needed to be designed and built for the local Skaneateles school programs.
He was devoted to his community and served in many area organizations. He was chair of the Skaneateles Town Planning Board and a member of the Syracuse Metropolitan Development Agency. He also served on the executive boards of the CNY chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the Longhouse Council, Boy Scouts of America. His impact as an architect is immeasurable. His many works can be seen throughout the area, including such signature designs as the Panasci Family Chapel at Le Moyne College, the Skaneateles Fire Station, the ecologically sustainable expansion of the Welch Allyn corporate headquarters in Skaneateles, and the refurbishment of the well-known pier in Skaneateles. His many projects also included work for many academic institutions. Steve’s wife established this fund in his memory.
