Job Shadow Program

Skaneateles High School Job Shadow Program

At Skaneateles High School, students are encouraged to explore careers in any way possible...through parents and family friends, special programs and courses, and actual job shadowing arranged through school. The key: EXPLORE!  Test things out. Step out of a traditional school day. Talk to people and various careers. Think about your skills and interest. Imagine yourself in the future!

Students are encouraged to take advantage of Naviance to explore careers. Naviance is college and career ready software that provides students with college planning and career assessment tools. The goal is for students to gain a better understanding of their field of interest and familiarize themselves with potential careers he / she may not have known existed. In addition to exploring details on various careers, this program provides a list of colleges that offer majors related to those careers. Each student and parent / guardian in the high school has access to Naviance. Click HERE to get started. Your email address is your User I.D. If you don't remember your password, create a new one. Once you are signed in, click on the "career" tab in the upper right hand corner and start exploring.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Michel or your counselor.

Now go EXPLORE! Imagine yourself. Imagine your future.

Architecture Summer Program

The 6-week program occurs twice weekly in the evenings from July through August. It is designed to introduce high-school-age students to architecture and design by giving them a glimpse into the collegiate and professional levels of the field. The program's first three weeks will be a preliminary introduction to architecture. In contrast, the second half of the course will allow students to explore higher-level concepts. It will follow the format of a traditional college studio by having them complete their projects. Additionally, a tour of local colleges is being planned, and talk about the different education options and the purpose and organization of a portfolio.

In addition, to provide a little more information on the course itself, we are hosting a virtual meeting on March 18th in hopes that counselors from school districts across CNY can attend. Please use this link to RSVP to the info session (https://forms.gle/biuwQPTmrcxTWekD8) . After that meeting, we hope that you will spread the word, so we can host another virtual meeting on March 25th geared more toward potential applicants to highlight some of the features of the program. In the hopes that we attract some interest, we are planning a downtown Syracuse architecture firm crawl during the students’ spring break to give them the opportunity to engage with professionals in the field and experience a little of the day-to-day tasks in an architectural firm. The deadline for the firm crawl is April 1st.

Please see Mrs. Michel in the library or your school counselor for more information on this program.
