Dr. Bob Corona Featured in Job Shadowing Speaker Series

On January 17th, neuropathologist Dr. Bob Corona was a guest on behalf of the Skaneateles High School Job Shadowing Program.  
 
Dr. Corona has several leadership roles at SUNY Upstate Medical University, including his current posts as Chief Executive Officer for Hospital Affairs of Hospital Administration, Director of Neuropathology/Muscle Pathology, and Director of Pathology Services at UH.  In addition, Dr. Corona advises residents, teaches pathology and lab medicine, and directs the hospital's pathology lab, employing about 250 people.
           
For roughly 75 minutes, Dr. Corona spoke to twenty-two students interested in careers in medicine.  Student interest was piqued by Dr. Corona’s dynamically-engaging presentation.  The students came away with a much more holistic idea of neuropathology and medicine as a whole.  
 
One SCS junior, Charles Vreeland, said, “I was impressed by the number of different roles Dr. Corona has been in.  I liked that there are ways to change in the field.  I also thought it was interesting to learn that in undergrad you don’t have to major in the sciences to be in the medical field.  You could be a music major or a business major before medical school. It’s good to be well-rounded.”  
 
Sarah Brennan, also a junior, added, “I thought it was really cool that he often looks for a liberal arts background in potential candidates because he is interested in people who know how to be a person and not just a doctor.”
