At Skaneateles High School, students are encouraged to explore careers in any way possible....through parents and family friends, special programs and courses, and actual job shadowing that is arranged through school. The key: EXPLORE!! Test things out. Step out of a traditional school day. Talk to people in various careers. Think about your skills and interest. Imagine yourself in the future!

                           SUMMER IS A GREAT TIME TO JOB SHADOW!

High school seniors (and select juniors) interested in exploring careers in health care can sign up for a 10AM tour most Sundays for a behind the scenes look into healthcare (specifcally maternity, pediatrics, neonatal, radiology).  They can register at the form/link below. Please see the attached flyer below.

MASH Camp, or the Medical Academy of Science and Health, is a fun and educational day camp for students to explore health careers. Students are exposed to a variety of health professions, covering everything from on-the-job-training to an advanced college degree. MASH Camps held during the summer are for students entering the 8th and 9th grades**

Campers enjoy two to three days of fun and interaction at a local healthcare facility, where they will:

  • Learn about a variety of health professions as viable career options;
  • Learn about the educational requirements, skills, typical job duties, and personal qualities of successful health professionals and para-professionals; and
  • Participate in interactive, hands-on workshops* that highlight the skills, equipment, technology, and resources used by health professionals.

As part of the camp experience, each participant will receive scrubs and lanyard with name badge to wear at camp; breakfast, lunch, and snacks; certificate of participation; and lots of attention from caring health professionals!

*Workshop topics vary by healthcare facility and may include physical therapy, nursing, surgery, food service, clinical laboratory sciences, cardiac care, pathology, diagnostic imaging, recreational therapy, pharmacy, emergency medicine, and others.

**MASH Camp is typically for students entering the 8th and 9th grades, however, some camp locations have opted for a different age range of students. The age range for each camp is listed below.

Note to parents, guardians or community members:
Many of you do interesting things and represent a wide variety of careers spanning all occupations and industries. Could a student shadow you for a couple of hours someday? Or would you be willing to come talk with student(s) with interest in your career? This is not an immediate commitment, we will save your information for future possibilities! Thank you for considering and making a difference in our students' future career exploration!!
Please email Mr. Pete Chapman or Mrs. GiGi Michel if you would like to set something up.
