Merry-Go-Round Youth Theatre Performs for Middle School Students Merry-Go-Round Youth Theatre Performs for Middle School Students: SKANEATELES, NY (March 15, 2019) – The Merry-Go-Round Youth Theatre performed for Skaneateles Middle School students on Thursday, March 14 in the Skaneateles High School auditorium.   The performance program known as ‘Echoes,’ featured original scripts written by middle school students across the state, including Skaneateles Middle School.   Merry-Go-Round actors brought students’ writing—funny, thought-provoking, or heartfelt—to life with costumes and props, musical instruments, and characters from zany to poignant. Eight OOTM Teams Advance to State Competition on March 23 Eight OOTM Teams Advance to State Competition on March 23: SKANEATELES, NY (March 11, 2019) – Of the twelve Skaneateles Central Schools teams to take part in the Odyssey of the Mind Regional Competition held on the Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES campus on March 9, eight of those teams have advanced to the NYS Competition to be held in Binghamton on March 23. Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem solving competition that teaches students how to think divergently by providing open-ended problems that appeal to a wide range of interests.  Students learn how to identify challenges and to think creatively to solve the problems at hand. Boys Ice Hockey Earns First State Title since 2015 Boys Ice Hockey Earns First State Title since 2015: Buffalo, N.Y. -- “Na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye,” echoed from the mouths of Skaneateles fans on Sunday as the Lakers were seconds away from securing its first Division II state championship since 2015. Skaneateles cruised to a 6-1 win over Queensbury at HarborCenter, and unlike Saturday’s game -- in which Luke Lynn recorded a hat trick -- the scoring was balanced across the board. Journey through History at State Street Wax Museum on March 14 Journey through History at State Street Wax Museum on March 14: SKANEATELES, NY (March 8, 2019) – Fourth-grade students at State Street Intermediate School will provide fellow students, teachers, and family an opportunity to go back in time and walk through history as a part of their annual Wax Museum of Famous Americans on Thursday, March 14.   The day consists of two sessions.  An afternoon session will be held for third and fifth-grade students to take a tour, while an evening session will be put on for the public, beginning at 6:30 p.m.   A tradition carried on for decades, fourth-grade students will line the hallways of State Street School dressed as famous Americans they have studied, posing along with cleverly placed props.   Traveling from the year 1722 to 1982 and beyond - students have portrayed the likes ...
'Save A Life Tour' Visits SHS Juniors and Seniors 'Save A Life Tour' Visits SHS Juniors and Seniors: SKANEATELES, NY (March 8, 2019) – The Save A Life Tour, presented by Matrix Entertainment, visited Skaneateles High School on Thursday, March 7 presenting to Juniors and Seniors on the dangers of driving while distracted and impaired.   The Save a Life Tour (SALT) is the nation’s most advanced and high-impact Safe Driving Awareness Program.    Beginning with a thought-provoking video, the program jumped into a live presentation from guest speaker, Mary Ann Angelillo, who told her personal story of the loss of her son Matthew, as the result of riding with an impaired driver.   The event then brought crowd participation to the driver's seat of SALT’s highly advanced impaired & distracted driving simulators. Lakers Girls Swimming & Diving Raises Money for Vera House Lakers Girls Swimming & Diving Raises Money for Vera House: The Skaneateles Lakers Girls Swimming and Diving team would like to thank the community and family members who sponsored them for the tread-a-thon this fall.  Through our efforts, the team was able to raise $1500 that was donated to Vera House.  Vera House was very touched by the gracious donation and will be able to help 3000 adults and children this year with the donation.  The mission of the Lakers swim team is that strong women are helping other strong women keep their heads above water, and with the support of the community, this has happened.  Thank you! TICKET INFO: NYSPHSAA Ice Hockey State Championships TICKET INFO: NYSPHSAA Ice Hockey State Championships: The Boys Varsity Hockey team will be competing in the NYSPHSAA Division II Ice Hockey State Championships this weekend inside the Harbor Center located at 100 Washington Street in Buffalo, NY. The Lakers will take on Webster Thomas in the Semi-Final at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 9. Should the Lakers win, the State Championship will be held on Sunday, March 10 at Noon versus either Queensbury or John Jay. Admission is $10 cash at the gate. Annual Senior Pasta Dinner, Sophomore Circus Set for March 8 Annual Senior Pasta Dinner, Sophomore Circus Set for March 8: SKANEATELES, NY (March 1, 2019) – The Skaneateles High School Class of 2019 will be plating pasta dinners on Friday, March 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. The evening will include delicious pasta dinners, musical entertainment from the Skaneateles school music department, the annual silent auction, as well as the traditional Sophomore Circus taking place down the hall in the gym for children of all ages. SHS Drama to Present SHS Drama to Present "Les Miserables" this Weekend: Skaneateles High School Drama is set to present "Les Miserables" beginning on February 28 and running through March 3. Below is the performance schedule: Thursday, February 28: 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 1: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 2: 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 3: 2 p.m. General admission tickets will be sold at the door of every performance.  Reserved tickets are available online at www.SHOWTIX4U.com. State Street Fourth Grade Participates in State Street Fourth Grade Participates in "I Love Math" Day: State Street fourth graders took part in the "I Love Math" celebration yesterday afternoon to help build a positive math community through problem solving. Teams collaborated to solve three low floor, high ceiling problems. A low floor, high ceiling problem is accessible to all students, but can also? be extended to high levels of learning. The goals of the program are to create persistent problem solvers and develop and encourage a love of math. Students spent 20-minue ses sions in three stations: Station 1: YouCubed My Heart Station 2: Pattern Block Hearts Station 3: Fibonacci Valentines Everyone then gathered back together in the Math Lab for a closing summary presentation.    
Waterman Students Celebrate 100 Days Waterman Students Celebrate 100 Days: Waterman Primary School celebrated 100 days today during morning meeting. The official 100th day of school is February 26, but this made for a fun-filled celebration on our last day before break. Fun!        
SCS Students Represent Skaneateles in Symphoria Youth Orchestra SCS Students Represent Skaneateles in Symphoria Youth Orchestra:   SKANEATELES, NY (February 14, 2019) – A pair of Skaneateles Central Schools students represented Skaneateles on Sunday, February 10 as members of the Symphoria Youth Winter Orchestra, which took place inside the Crouse Hinds Concert Theater. The Symphoria Youth Orchestra is comprised of some of the best young musicians in Central New York including Josh Pickup and Massimo Capozza of Skaneateles Central Schools. The session was inspiring and lots of fun and helped club members to learn new ways of helping to make their dance bring the music alive.
