CELL STRUCTURE STUDY GUIDE
The main differences of the plant and animal cell are:
CELL THEORY:
Down the left side of the animal cell: Down the right side of the animal cell:
Nucleus mitochondria
Golgi bodies centriole
Chromosomes cell membrane
Nuclear membrane endoplasmic reticulum
Lysosome vacuole
Ribosomes
Down the left side of the plant cell: Down the right side of the plant cell:
Endoplasmic reticulum chloroplasts
Ribosomes mitochondria
Nucleus nuclear membrane
Golgi bodies vacuole
Cell membrane cell wall
- Nucleus- control center of the cell, directs all cell activities
- Cell Membrane- gatekeeper of the cell, allows some things to move or out but not all things.
- Mitochondria- the energy source of the cell, the power generator, site of respiration
- Vacuole- storage area for the cell- stores, water, wastes, oxygen and food
- Endoplasmic reticulum- transport system of the cell.
- Ribosomes-place where proteins are made
- Golgi Bodies- packages proteins and gives support
- Chloroplasts- makes food for the plant cell, changes solar energy into chemical energy
The main differences of the plant and animal cell are:
PLANT | ANIMAL |
Contains cell wall | No cell wall |
Box-like shape | Roundish shape |
Large vacuoles | Small vacuoles |
No centrioles | centrioles |
Lysosomes are rare | Lysosomes are many |
chloroplasts | No chloroplasts |
CELL THEORY:
- All organisms are made of one or more cells
- All cells come from other cells
- A cell is the basic/smallest unit of life that carries on all life’s processes
