Fluency

Reading fluency is the ability to read continuous text automatically, using appropriate phrasing, intonation, and punctuation.  This important skill develops through practice, and begins with learning letters and sight words so well that they are known quickly and effortlessly.  Fluency is not an end in itself, but is a critical gateway to comprehension.
