Superintendent Knuth's Letter to the Community- 2/2/2021
February 2, 2021
Dear Skaneateles family,
We are so excited to begin to see restrictions lifted throughout our region. This week we began to offer expanded in-person opportunities for our students including the addition of student activities and the start of athletics. While this is certainly a sign of progress, we were also reminded yesterday just how susceptible we still are to COVID-19 and associated orders of isolation and quarantine.
On Monday of this week, we learned of an infection at our high school that resulted in seven teachers, a teaching assistant, and 63 students being placed into mandatory 10-day quarantine due to exposure. Thank you for your continued understanding that we cannot discuss any confidential medical information and that the criteria for determining who is placed into quarantine is dictated by our County Health Departments and the New York State Department of Health.
Each new case within our community jeopardizes our ability to provide in-person instruction. While we have made progress as a region, the impact of COVID-19 on our school and community is far from over. Even as restrictions begin to lift, we thank you for your continued vigilance as we see this through together. The health and safety of everyone in our school community will always remain our priority.
Stronger together,
Eric Knuth
Superintendent of Schools
