June 16, 2020 Budget Vote Process

Please find information below that explains the process the district will be using tomorrow as we count the absentee ballots.

Tuesday, June 16, 2020

3:00 pm
  • Inspectors will arrive to begin organizing the vote counting process. . Masks will be worn and social distancing will be practiced.
  • All inspector will be shown where the ballots have been locked.  Inspectors will carry the ballots to the Board room.
  • If the organizing process on Monday has not been completed, inspectors will continue that process.

4:00 pm
  • SCSD attorney Bethany Centrone will review the rules and regulation of the ballot counting process with all inspectors.

5:00 pm
  • The live stream of the vote counting process will begin.  The link will be posted on the website on Tuesday, June 16th.   At http://www.skanschools.org/districtpage.cfm?pageid=273
  • The official counting of the ballots begins.
  • 4 inspectors will be sitting at a long table. They will be given sealed Ballot Envelopes. They will open the envelope, and keep the ballot CLOSED, sliding in into a manila folder. 
  • Any Ballot Envelopes that are not completed correctly will be held aside and given to the Chief Inspector to review.  Any Ballot Envelopes that are invalid, will be placed in an envelope.
  • 2 inspectors will be runners. They will pick up the manila folder with the actual folded ballots inside and walk them to the voting machines. 
  • They will hand the folder to the inspector charged (2 inspectors total, one per machine) with running the ballots through the machines.  If requested, the runner will help unfold the ballots.
  • This process above will continue until every valid ballot has been counted. Inspectors have been trained in each role and may change roles throughout the night.
  • When every ballot has been counted, the Chief Inspector will shut down the voting machines.  The live streaming will end.
  • The Chief Inspector will print out the tally for each machine and hand it to the District Clerk.
  • The District Clerk will add up the votes and prepare the Certification of the Vote for the Board of Education meeting.

June 16, 2020 Board Meeting and Certification of Vote
Immediately Following Vote Tally – approximately 8:00 pm
The Board of Education meeting will begin and a new live stream will be available then.  Vote tallies will be announced at the BOE meeting.
