SCS in Search of Used iPhone or Android Devices for Virtual Reality Lessons

SKANEATELES, NY (November 29, 2018) – Skaneateles Central Schools is in search of unwanted iPhone or Android devices that can be used in classroom applications as virtual reality goggles.

iPhone devices must be iPhone 5s and up.

“From time to time our students use these devices in virtual reality lessons so they can travel to Gettysburg, Ellis Island, or even Normandy,” said Skaneateles Middle School teacher, Jim Ryan.  “The problem is, not every student has their own device to use.  With that said, we are looking for any WiFi capable devices, such as an iPhone, that may be sitting around at home, unused.  We can take those devices and put them to good use at school.”

With the help of Instructional Support Specialist, Heather Buff, teachers such as Ryan and Lori Usifer have taken students on VR tours of ancient civilizations, historic battlefields and more using Google Expeditions and 360 movies.

Those who wish to donate old devices can bring them to the Skaneateles Central Schools District Office, located at 45 E. Elizabeth St.
