Laker Sports Look Back: Football Improves to 2-0

SKANEATELES, NY (September 10, 2018) – Skaneateles Lakers high school sports were in full swing last week with ten different varsity contests taking place from September 4 – September 8.

Lakers football continued their winning ways on Friday evening, running away from third ranked Homer by the score of 56-20 in the Lakers home opener.

The Trojans kept pace with the Lakers early on, but could not keep up down the stretch as Skaneateles scored 42 unanswered points to improve their season record to 2-0 on the year.  The victory was the first for Skaneateles over Homer since a playoff triumph in 2001.

Patrick Hackler threw for 395 yards and six touchdowns with Nate Wellington, Nick Wamp and William McGlynn each reaching the end zone through the air.

Areh Boni rushed for 123 yards and one touchdown in the win.

The Lakers return home this Friday at 7 p.m. versus Westhill.

The Lakers girls’ tennis team took part in two contests over the week, with a victory over Mexico and a loss to CBA.

Rachel Feeney, Hope Allyn and Isabella Kroon took singles wins over Mexico while the doubles teams of Neumann/Fouts, Doyle/Lee and Soderberg/Walker all claimed victories as well.

The girls’ volleyball team dropped two contests last week to Cazenovia and Westhill. 

Lily Delasin led the Lakers in each contest with 41 total assists.

Girls’ swimming fell to Oswego last week 94-89. 

Lily Buchholz won the 100 backstroke and the 50 freestyle with the 200 Medley team of Buchholz, Caitlin Comer, Grace King and Alice Spaulding claiming victory. 

King would also go on to win the 500 freestyle for the Lakers.

The girls’ soccer team dropped two contests last week to Cazenovia and West Genesee.

Riley Brogan found the back of the net against Cazenovia with Sarah Bailey scoring versus West Genesee.  The Lakers are now 2-2 overall.

The boys’ soccer team shutout Chittenango last week by the score of 3-0.

Thomas Reed, William Pinckney and Andrew Moss all scored.  The Lakers are now 1-1-1 overall.

Both the boys and girls cross-country teams were in action last week in the Chittenango Invitational.  The boys placed 8th overall with the girls taking 10th.
