Incoming Superintendent Addresses Faculty & Staff

SKANEATELES, NY (September 4, 2018) – Incoming Skaneateles Central School District Superintendent, Lynda Quick, welcomed back the faculty and staff of SCS during the District’s first Superintendent Conference Day on Thursday.

Following remarks from Skaneateles High School Principal, Greg Santoro, and Skaneateles Central Schools Board of Education President, Sue Murphy, Quick introduced herself and set the stage for the 2018-2019 school year inside the Skaneateles High School auditorium.

“It is a pleasure and an honor to be here with you on your welcoming day of the 2018-2019 school year,” said Quick.  “The Skaneateles Central School District is a unique and amazing place.  To those returning staff members, know that you are what makes our District a unique and special place, because in education it is all about the people.  We’re about people, we’re about kids.”

Officially starting her role as Superintendent on September 10, Quick wasted little time in laying out her goals, aspirations and expectations for the coming school year.

“Expect to see me and see me frequently,” said Quick.  “You’re going to see me in your buildings.  You’re going to see me in your hallways.  You’re going to see me in the maintenance shop.  You might even see me on your buses, riding a bus route.  I want to be a part of what you all do.”

Being an integral part of the daily activities inside each District building is essential to, “putting the heart back in education,” says Quick.

“We need to put the heart in education because we lead with our hearts, we teach with our hearts and that is how we ultimately reach kids,” said Quick.  “You’re going to hear this from me quite a bit and I hope to see it frequently because that is really part of who I am.  I believe empathy and caring in our schools is vital to being successful.  There is a value in positivity and creating an accepting and open environment where everyone feels valued, empowered and respected.  When we have those things, you all want to come to work and our students want to come to school.  You have that here in Skaneateles and I want to be a part of fostering that environment for everyone.”

Previously serving as the district superintendent and chief operating officer of the Cattaraugus-Allegany-Erie-Wyoming BOCES in Cattaraugus County, Quick worked to oversee a $75-million dollar budget, 600 full-time employees and day-to-day interaction with and oversight of the 22 school districts within her BOCES.  Now, Quick is eager to put her previous experience to work in helping to continue to move Skaneateles Central Schools forward.

“In public education we are at a crossroads,” said Quick.  “We need to move forward strategically, purposefully and with a renewed commitment to what we are here for and the job that we do.  Our job and our Mission is to create the very best educational opportunities for our students and that is not always an easy task.  I come here as your biggest supporter, your biggest advocate and to provide the support and conditions under which we can be our very best.”

Before the District’s faculty and staff moved to on to further team building exercises during the afternoon, Quick left everyone with one final reminder.

“The curriculum is necessary, but warmth is the vital element for reaching every child; again putting the heart back in education,” said Quick.  “I believe you have that here in Skaneateles and I believe that is why my beliefs match what you do.  That is why I wanted to come to Skaneateles.  I hope you’re ready to join me in welcoming the new school year with energy, enthusiasm and especially with heart.”

The first day of classes for Skaneateles Central Schools is Wednesday, September 5.
