SKANEATELES, NY (April 13, 2017) – The Skaneateles High School Orchestra is pleased to announce that it will perform side by side with the Le Moyne College Chamber Orchestra on Wednesday, April 26 at 7 p.m. in the Skaneateles High School Auditorium.
The Skaneateles High School Orchestra will be one of many guest performers alongside the Le Moyne College Chamber Orchestra, as they perform “Happy Birthday, Ella” in celebration of the 100th birthday of the first lady of jazz, Ella Fitzgerald.
The concert will feature multiple works that were hallmarks of Fitzgerald’s career, including “Night and Day,” “Sophisticated Lady,” “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)”, and many more. The orchestra will also perform popular Big Band works as well as a tribute to frequent Fitzgerald collaborator Louis Armstrong.
The concert is free and open to the public, with donations being accepted to benefit the Brady Faith Center’s “Summer Servants” program, designed to bring young people together to serve the city of Syracuse. The program will receive 100% of the donations from the evening.
Joining the Skaneateles High School Orchestra as special guests for the April 26 performance will be saxophonist Joe Carello, and vocalist Cathy Butler.
The concert will be conducted by Travis Newton, assistant professor at Le Moyne College, with a special appearance by Karen Veverka, director of the Skaneateles High School Orchestra.
“I am excited to work with Travis Newton,” said Skaneateles High School Director, Karen Veverka. “Travis is a fantastic educator and musician. It will be a great evening and we look forward to seeing a big crowd.”
