Students Return from DECA State Career Conference in Rochester

SKANEATELES, NY (March 16, 2017) – A group of ten Skaneateles High School students recently participated in the DECA State Career Conference held at the Riverside Convention Center in Rochester, NY from March 8-10.

Daniel Mulroy’s Skaneateles DECA team consisted of seniors Patrick Greenfield, Matthew Neumann, Joshua Luce, Reggie Buell, Kyler Viggiano, Lydia Parker, Malcolm Lombardi, Tommy Seeley, and Jacob Stone as well as junior Aidan Bennett.

Nearly 3,000 students took part in the conference competing in a variety of different events held in the fields of marketing, finance, business management, and entrepreneurship. 

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.

Utilizing lessons learned from DECA students become academically prepared for college and career in the previously mentioned fields while also becoming community oriented by gaining an appreciation for the benefits of service and their potential impact on the community and world.

DECA also helps push students to become professionally responsible with ethics, integrity, and high standards while becoming experienced leaders by practicing key leadership skills such as goal setting, consensus building, and project management.

Several DECA students received recognition following the State Career Conference including Lombardi, Luce, and Greenfield who managed top 10 test scores.

Lombardi and Seeley would go on to finish in the top 10 overall in the Travel & Tourism Decision Making competition.

Luce would also score in the top 10 overall in Business Services Marketing.

Beyond competing, the students also took part in various leadership seminars.
