Sixth Graders Take on "Battle of the Books" to Enhance Study Skills

SKANEATELES, NY (March 3, 2017) – Members of the Skaneateles Middle School sixth grade took part in the semi-final round of the “Battle of the Books” this afternoon, a competition focused on building study skills.

Four teams took part in the competition with the winner of each semi-final round taking part in the “Battle of the Books” finale on Monday afternoon.

The competition featured questions from six pieces of literature including A Long Way from Chicago by Richard Peck, Julie of the Wolves by Jean Craighead George, Scat by Carl Hiaagen, Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz, The Pinballs by Betsy Byars, and Becoming Naomi Leon by Pam Munoz Ryan.

Questions were asked of teams in alternating fashion, with teams having the opportunity to steal answers should the opposing team give an incorrect answer.

In the first semi-final the Team MMCCBE Readers took on Team QA’s with MMCCBE earning the victory by the score of 10-8.

In the second semi-final Team Reading Rhonda’s edged Team Rainbow Narwhals by the same score of 10-8.

The results of the semi-final round will see Team MMCCBE Readers face Team Reading Rhonda’s in the final round on Monday afternoon for the “Battle of the Books” championship.
