SKANEATELES, NY (October 1, 2018) – U.S. Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, today announced 349 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2018, including Skaneateles High School.
As a National Blue Ribbon School for 2018, Skaneateles High School was recognized as an Exemplary High Performing School among the state of New York's highest performing schools, measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.

SAT/ACT Prep Available at Skaneateles High School:
This opportunity is for Juniors to attend a complete and comprehensive SAT/ACT review class here at Skaneateles High School. This 26-hour course, developed by Chariot Learning in Rochester, not only covers powerful content and strategies for every test section, but also includes one full-length proctored practice SAT and ACT, with a full group review session for each. Homecoming Pep Rally Promotes School Spirit, Celebrates New School Year:
SKANEATELES, NY (September 26, 2018) – Skaneateles High School held its fall Pep Rally on Friday afternoon ahead of homecoming weekend with the entire student body celebrating in the high school’s gymnasium.
The celebration started with Spirit Week leading up to the Pep Rally as students wore different outfits through the week to show school spirit.
On Friday, each class participated in a series of activities including the class cheer competition, tug of war, relay races, the class mural competition, pie eating and dodge ball.
The class mural competition was a special new addition, as each class painted a mural based on the phrase, “I Forgot My Umbrella,” with the winning team earning the right to paint their mural inside the high school. ...

Laker Sports Look Back: Football Shuts Out Bishop Ludden, Moves to 4-0:
SKANEATELES, NY (September 25, 2018) – Skaneateles High School sports had a banner week, led by a shutout victory for the Varsity Football Lakers over Bishop Ludden, 35-0.
Having the game postponed to Saturday afternoon due to weather concerns did nothing to slow the Lakers, as they jumped to a quick 14-0 lead with a pair of scoring strikes on the ground by Areh Boni.
Quarterback Patrick Hackler would then connect with Nick Wamp for two passing touchdowns, before Nate Wellington concluded the scoring on another touchdown strike from Hackler to move the Lakers to 4-0 overall.
The Lakers will return home once again this Saturday at 7 p.m. versus the winless Institute of Technology Syracuse Central for Senior Night.

SMS Students to Take Part in World's Largest Pet Walk on Saturday:
SKANEATELES, NY (September 25, 2018) – Skaneateles Middle School students will be taking part in the Pet Partners World’s Largest Pet Walk on Saturday, September 29 at 2:30 p.m. in Austin Park with SMS therapy dog, Coco.
Certified through Pet Partners, Coco will lead anyone that wants to join through Austin Park on Saturday as a celebration of Pet Partners Walk With Me program.
Anyone interested in joining can sign up in Mrs. Rogala’s room to get an official walking bib. There is no fee to participate.

Music & Art Students Visit Johnson Museum of Art:
SKANEATELES, NY (September 20, 2018) – In a joint effort between the Skaneateles High School Tri-M and Art Departments, students in the art classes of Jessica Sawchuk along with Maureen Van Vechten’s Music Honor Society students visited Cornell University’s Johnson Museum of Art on Tuesday.
The trip was an all-day experience with students interacting with and taking in various works of art, photos, installation spaces, and musical instruments.
The day started with a trip to the Japanese garden as students stopped to draw sketches or take photos before viewing a film installation by the artist, Xu Bing, about the history of Chinese characters.

SMS Student Council Dinosaur BBQ Fundraiser Set for October 3:
SKANEATELES, NY (September 19, 2018) – The Skaneateles Middle School Student Council is set to present its 18 th annual Dinosaur BBQ, Gianelli Sausage Drive-Thru Fundraiser on Wednesday, October 3 beginning at 3 p.m. in front of Skaneateles Middle School.
The day’s menu includes a Gianelli Sausage with peppers and onions, a Dinosaur BBQ pulled pork sandwich, or a Carolina Sandwich with pulled pork topped with coleslaw.
Each dinner choice comes with Dinosaur BBQ style baked beans, coleslaw, chips, and soda or water for only $9.
The fundraiser will run from 3 p.m. until the menu is sold out.

State Street Joins Positivity Project for 2018-2019 School Year:
SKANEATELES, NY (September 18, 2018) – Under the guidance of new school Principal, Michelle Crisafulli, State Street Intermediate School has become a Positivity Project Partner School for the 2018-2019 year.
The Positivity Project, also known as P2, was introduced to schools in 2015 and is aimed at empowering America’s youth to build positive relationships and to understand, appreciate, and exemplify the character strengths in us all.

Waterman Students Work with Apples in STEM Lab:
A huge thank you to the Fleckensteins for donating over 300 apples from Beak and Skiff so our 1st and 2nd graders could use them in STEM Lab!! 1st graders have been measuring, weighing, tasting and stacking apples. 2nd graders have been testing gravity and if the size of the apple or the height of the ramp make a difference in the speed of the apples falling. They have also been testing to see how many pennies it takes to move an apple up an inclined plane. They have used their senses while eating an apple, and have seen the effects of different liquids on the rate of oxidation of an apple

Laker Sports Look Back: Football Tops Westhill 49-6; Improves to 3-0:
SKANEATELES, NY (September 17, 2018) – More than a dozen different Lakers contests took place last week, with the Varsity Football team continuing their run in a dominant 49-6 victory over Westhill on Friday.
Quarterback Patrick Hackler accounted for five scores on Friday with three touchdowns on the ground, one through the air, as well as an interception return for a touchdown.
Areh Boni rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown and caught four passes from Hackler, including a touchdown.
Luke Viggiano added an interception return for a touchdown in the victory, as Skaneateles moves to 3-0. Ranked third in the state, the Lakers return home this Friday versus Bishop Ludden.

Career Exploration Programs Available to SHS Students:
SKANEATELES, NY (September 11, 2018) – Skaneateles High School continues to work closely with career exploration programs in the Central New York area, with two programs currently open for enrollment.
Course Hospital’s volunteer program known as CHOICES is currently open for registration for students aged 14-18.
The Crouse Hospitals Offers Innovative Career Explorations for Students program provides students interested in healthcare careers an opportunity to attend forums featuring medical professionals who discuss their specialties and take questions.
The deadline to apply for CHOICES is Tuesday, October 16. Students are asked to visit Mrs. Michel or Mr. Chapman for more information and to pick-up an application.
