March Madness Activities Coming to Middle School:
SKANEATELES, NY (February 27, 2017) – For three days in the upcoming month of March, the Skaneateles Middle School will be providing March Madness Activities for students ranging from brain teasers and cupcake decorating, to arts & crafts and trivia.
One of the goals of the Skaneateles Middle School Improvement Team (SIT) is increased wellness and to assist in this goal the Middle School SIT went about identifying several clubs and activities that would help promote student wellness.
With the help of surveys, the SIT gathered ideas on clubs and activities that students and staff may enjoy participating in and combined that information with efforts already being put in place by the Middle School PTC and the Student Council.

SKANEATELES, NY (February 17, 2017) – Skaneateles High School students enrolled in Kate Hardy’s 10 th grade Honors English class are working on a weekly project which sees the students research, select, and edit press archives of the past located in the Skaneateles Library and the Historical Society for submission into the “Years Ago” column within the Skaneateles Press.
The column, which is split into historical segments of 10-25-50-75 and 100 years ago, is a remembrance and celebration of past days in Skaneateles.

High School Grad Rate Stands at 96%; Advanced Diploma Rate Climbs:
SKANEATELES, NY (February 17, 2017) – Skaneateles High School once again achieved an overall graduation rate of 96% for the Class of 2016, with the number of students attaining a Regents diploma with advanced designation climbing to a new high of 69%.
The advance designation graduation rate of 69% is an increase from the Skaneateles High School Class of 2015, which saw a Regents diploma with advanced designation graduation rate of 63%.

Text Feature Added to School Messenger Service:
SKANEATELES, NY (February 17, 2017) – Based on a number of suggestions from parents and guardians following Wednesday morning’s snow event, Skaneateles Central Schools has added a text feature to its School Messenger service, working as an added element to keep parents directly informed on district happenings.
The text messaging feature of School Messenger joins the previously utilized methods of e-mail and voice mail.

Syracuse Stage to Perform for 8th Graders Feb. 28:
SKANEATELES, NY (February 16, 2017) – Members of Syracuse Stage will perform before Skaneateles Middle School 8 th grade students on Feb. 28, with a performance of “Rosalie Randazzo: Child Garment Worker.”
The performance, which focuses on a fictional character, is a composite based on the true stories of the millions of child laborers and immigrants working in America at the dawn of the 20 th century and is a part of the Syracuse Stage Backstory program.
The Backstory program is a live, interactive and creative history lesson for upper elementary students through adults.

The Good News in a Bad Weather Morning:
The snowfall that caught everyone off guard today brought out the best in many people in the Skaneateles Central School District. Like all other area districts, Skaneateles was into the morning routine before the weather issue became abundantly clear.
As roads worsened, reactions by bus drivers, parents and others were inspirational, according to Superintendent Ken Slentz. “The teamwork that was displayed in ensuring the safe arrival of our students is truly admirable,” Slentz said.

Kid's Night Out Scheduled for Friday at Middle School:
SKANEATELES, NY (February 7, 2017) – The Skaneateles Middle School PTC will be presenting Kid’s Night Out this Friday at the Skaneateles Middle School from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Kid’s Night Out is open to all Middle School Students in grades six through eight, offering a variety of “night out” activities including a game room, bingo, karaoke, dodge ball, and a salon.
The annual gathering offers students the opportunity to experience a fun night out in a controlled environment.

Schweinfurth Art Center's "Both Ends of the Rainbow" Exhibit Promotes Student Artwork:
SKANEATELES, NY (February 2, 2017) – Schweinfurth Art Center’s “Both Ends of the Rainbow” exhibit is featuring over 50 pieces of art from various Skaneateles Central School students.
The annual exhibit showcases approximately 1,000 pieces of artwork in total by regional K-12 students.
Located at 205 Genesee St. in Auburn, the Schweinfurth Art Center is a non-profit gallery which offers five exhibitions each year featuring regional, national, and international artists.

Student art promotes Addams Family:
The high school drama production in early March is being promoted by students in the district’s new graphic design course taught by Jessica Sawchuk.
Students were given the real world assignment of promoting the March 2-5 production of The Addams Family as the final project of the first semester, said Sawchuk. First, they researched the show and did sketches. After the students had started their work in Illustrator, designers from Chase Design visited the class to give feedback on things like placement, color and technique.
Mickey Kringer, drama director, also gave the students feedback, and later returned to choose which poster to use in promotion of the musical about the weird and wonderful Addams Family.

Congratulations to Team Brain Freeze, the eight member all-school teacher team, for taking the Polar Plunge in support of the Skaneateles Education Foundation, SAVES, and the Skaneateles Fire Department. Dressed as characters from the Scooby Doo Show, these brave and enthusiastic teachers raised $1,610 for the cause(s).
They call themselves “Team Brain Freeze” and have jumped together (in various groupings) from the very first year that the Skaneateles Sunrise Rotary Club started Winterfest. The team has grown each year and now includes a representative from each school.
