SKANEATELES, NY (April 5, 2017) – Patches, a Paws of CNY therapy dog, recently visited Ms. Klunder’s 7 th grade reading class at Skaneateles Middle School.
A Parson Russell Terrier, Patches listened intently as students took turns reading in groups as Patches trotted through the room bringing bright smiles and colorful interaction to all in attendance.
Skaneateles Middle School Speech Language Pathologist, Kate Gillen, said the experience of seeing the kids read and interact with Patches was incredible.

Forum Provides Insight into Budget, Project 2021:
SKANEATELES, NY (April 4, 2017) – Skaneateles Central School’s Superintendent Ken Slentz addressed attendees Monday evening in the Skaneateles High School Auditorium in regards to the districts projected enrollment, preliminary 2017-18 budget, and Project 2021 as a part of the district’s second community forum of 2017.
Slentz opened the forum with a look into past, current, and projected enrollment numbers for the district.
While the overall enrollment is projected to continue to trend down into 2018-2019, Slentz noted that in each of the last three years the actual enrollment came in at an average of 2.267% higher than projected.

Students Among National Video Finalists:
SKANEATELES, NY (April 3, 2017) – Skaneateles High School students enrolled in Honors 10 English once again entered to compete in the ‘Speak Truth to Power’ student video contest this year with two groups moving on as national finalists to be considered as Grand Prize winners.
Skaneateles student videos have finished in the runner-up position the last two years.
Students Ruby Ramsgard, Greta Weiss, Kelsey Ibach, and Dana Palmer hope to see that result change with their production “Frank Mugisha: I am a Friend” as do students Catherine Cramer, Veronica Ryan, and Bridget Neumann with their video “LGBTQ Rights: A Documentary.”

Openings to Join High School Trip to NYC:
SKANEATELES, NY (March 31, 2017) – Skaneateles High School students are once again preparing to make their annual trip to New York City from October 6-9.
All Skaneateles High School students are welcome to take part in the trip with the group planning to attend the Whitney Museum of Art, Ellis Island, the 9/11 Museum, Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, and the All American High School Film Festival.
Skaneateles High School art teacher Jessica Sawchuk stressed that the trip is open to all students, not just art students.

Forum to Explore Enrollment, Budget, Project 2021:
SKANEATELES, NY (March 28, 2017) – Originally scheduled for March 22, the Skaneateles Central School District will conduct its second community forum on Monday, April 3 at 6 p.m. in the Skaneateles High School Auditorium.
Open to all members of the community, Skaneateles Central School’s Superintendent Ken Slentz will address several areas of interest.

King has been identified by a panel of creative professionals as one of the most talented young artists and writers in the nation.

Athletic Code Expansion Discussed by Board of Education to Include All Extracurricular Activities:
SKANEATELES, NY (March 24, 2017) – During Tuesday’s Skaneateles Central School District Board of Education meeting, board members discussed the expansion of the current athletic code of conduct to include all extracurricular activities in a document known as the Extracurricular Participation and Expectations Handbook.
The handbook will contain a new set of policies and procedures for students and coaches, advisors, and adult leaders alike, which are aligned to the district’s strategic plan and more specifically the 6 Dimensions of Wellness.

Community Forum II Rescheduled to April 3:
SKANEATELES, NY (March 21, 2017) – The second Skaneateles Central School District Community Forum has been rescheduled to take place on Monday, April 3 in the Skaneateles High School auditorium, beginning at 6 p.m.
Originally scheduled for March 22, the new forum date will focus more intently on the upcoming 2017-2018 school budget as well as collecting community input in regards to Project 2021.
After successful Project 2021 shareholder meetings with faculty, staff and students, community feedback is the next step in the shareholder meeting process.

Merry-Go-Round Youth Theatre to Perform Thursday in High School Auditorium:
SKANEATELES, NY (March 21, 2017) – The Merry-Go-Round Youth Theatre will perform for Skaneateles Middle School students on Thursday, March 23 in the Skaneateles High School auditorium beginning at 1 p.m.
The performance program known as ‘Echoes,’ will feature original scripts written by middle school students across the state, including Skaneateles Middle School.
Merry-Go-Round actors will then bring the students’ writing—funny, thought-provoking, or heartfelt—to life with costumes and props, musical instruments, and characters from zany to poignant. SKANEATELES, NY (March 17, 2017) – Fourth-grade students at State Street Intermediate School provided fellow students, teachers, and family an opportunity to walk through history as a part of their annual Wax Museum of Famous Americans held at the school on Thursday.
The day consisted of two sessions. An afternoon session was held for third and fifth-grade students to take a tour, while an evening session was put on for the public.

SKANEATELES, NY (March 17, 2017) – The undefeated, state champion Skaneateles Girls Ice Hockey team was presented with championship medals on Friday morning from Skaneateles High School Principal Gregory Santoro.
The championship squad, which defeated Orchard Park 5-1 in the state championship final in February to lock a perfect 19-0 season, also ended their campaign as a NYS Scholar Athlete team with a combined GPA of 93%.

Five OOTM Teams Advance to State Competition April 8:
SKANEATELES, NY (March 17, 2017) – Of the ten Skaneateles Central School teams to take part in the Odyssey of the Mind Regional Competition held on the Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES campus on March 11, five of those teams have advanced to the NYS Competition to be held in Binghamton on April 8.
Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem solving competition that teaches students how to think divergently by providing open-ended problems that appeal to a wide range of interests. Students learn how to identify challenges and to think creatively to solve the problems at hand.
Skaneateles Central School teams in Odyssey of the Mind are open to students in grades 3-12, and consist of seven members per team.

Mark Wood Concert Rescheduled for April 10, 7 p.m.:
SKANEATELES, NY (March 16, 2017) – The highly anticipated return of Grammy-Award winning rock violinist Mark Wood to Skaneateles High School will now have to wait until Monday, April 10 following consecutive days of canceled classes in Skaneateles on Tuesday and Wednesday due to prolonged winter weather that saw the original performance date of March 14 postponed.
The performance, which will see Wood take the stage with Skaneateles School orchestra students, will begin at 7 p.m. All tickets sold for the March 14 performance will be honored on April 10.

Dear parents/guardians - we continue to watch the weather patterns as they unfold and as they are predicted for the coming hours. T he ongoing winds may prove problematic for us in the morning, possibly requiring a delay. As it currently stands, the Cayuga County Sheriff has declared an "Essential Travel Only" restriction for the overnight hours. Accordingly, we will wait until morning to make the decision on delay. I do expect that once in session, all activities including the wax museum will continue.
As a reminder, we will have students in for half day on Friday, March 17 and will continue with an abbreviated conference day thereafter. Each of the principals will send dismissal times for their respective buildings tomorrow morning. ...
