Skaneateles CSD Alum, Teacher Recognized at Virtual RIT Ceremony
On Thursday, March 18th, Anna Neuenschwander was recognized for RIT's Outstanding Undergraduate Scholar Award. The top 1% of RIT's undergraduate students are recognized with this award. In order to be chosen for this award, a student must have a GPA of 3.85 or higher. Also, to complement academic achievement, the student must show creative work, service on student committees, civic activities, employment and/or independent research.
A 2017 graduate of Skaneateles High School, Anna is pursuing a BFA in medical illustration. Since 2018, she has worked in RIT’s Advanced Research Program as a medical illustrator and animator. Their research is focused on how a medical illustration’s style can lead to misunderstandings between concepts. Anna developed the visual media that is used in the studies. In addition, Anna is the co-founder and president of RIT’s Medical Illustration Club as well as a recipient of the Nathaniel Rochester Society Scholarship. She also spends her time tutoring students in the Higher Education Opportunity Program and as a Learning Assistant. Following graduation, Anna plans to pursue a career as a medical illustrator and animator. You can check out her work on her website www.ACNillustrations.com,
As part of the award, students were given the opportunity to honor a high school or community college teacher who had a profound impact on their academic development. Anna recognized Skaneateles High School AP Biology Teacher, Mrs. Collier. “I nominated Mrs. Collier because she was a strong woman in science who showed me it is possible to be successful in a STEM field. She furthered my interest in the biological sciences and convinced me that there was so much more I could learn. Biology had always interested me; however, I wasn’t excellent at understanding complex concepts. The way she taught resonated with me and it all seemed to click. Her teaching style definitely helped me build a strong foundation for my college learning. She showed me that I can achieve my goals no matter the circumstances. Her strength and determination was truly important to my growth as a student.” Mrs. Collier will be receiving a framed certificate of appreciation from RIT.
Congratulations to both Anna and Mrs. Collier for always giving your 110%!
