Principal Profile: Gregory Santoro Principal Profile: Gregory Santoro: Our Principal Profile series comes to a close with High School Principal Gregory Santoro!   Mr. Santoro has worked at Skaneateles for nine years and enjoys working with our wonderful students and staff every day. These were just a few of the many clubs sixth and seventh-grade students recently explored at the Middle School Activities Fair. Students had a chance to speak to their peers who were involved with some of the clubs and could sign up if they were interested. Senior Ethan Pickup Named a Recipient of the 2021-2022 Best and Brightest Award Senior Ethan Pickup Named a Recipient of the 2021-2022 Best and Brightest Award: Skaneateles High School senior Ethan Pickup was recently named a recipient of the 2021-2022 Best and Brightest Award, presented by Advance Media New York. In order to be selected, students had to include their academic successes, extracurricular activities and service to their school and community, and receive recommendations from peers and teachers. "I heard about the award through the Skaneateles Education Foundation and they thought I'd be a good applicant," said Pickup. "I'm very honored to be named a winner." Middle School Partners With Peaceful Schools to Strengthen Connections Among Eighth Grade Students Middle School Partners With Peaceful Schools to Strengthen Connections Among Eighth Grade Students: Eighth-grade students at Skaneateles Middle School recently heard from Dani Ryan, Vice President of Peaceful Schools, who introduced them to concepts like upstander behavior as a response to mean behaviors they may witness in-person and online. This was the first of several sessions students will attend over the next few weeks, where they will dive deeper into how to prevent and respond to hurtful behavior through safe, powerful, and productive techniques.   One of the first things Ryan asked of the students was to stop using the word “bully” as a noun. Rather, she said that bullying describes an action that someone is doing. She asked the students to imagine if everything they said or did fell off of them as a rock, which then fell into water and created a ripple effect. ...

Sports Spotlight: Girls Swimming & Diving Sports Spotlight: Girls Swimming & Diving: The girls' swimming and diving team is up next in our sports spotlight! The team competes in meets at the Skaneateles YMCA. At a recent meet, the team wore purple caps and supported Vera House to raise awareness about domestic violence. Principal Profile: John Lawrence Principal Profile: John Lawrence: In honor of National Principals Month, Skaneateles Central School District is highlighting one principal every week in a principal profile series. This week we are recognizing John Lawrence, principal of State Street Intermediate School.   Lawrence grew up in Buffalo, NY and has worked at Skaneateles for six years- three as a teacher and three as a principal. Lawrence described Skaneateles as “an incredibly supportive community” and praised all teachers for going above and beyond for their students.   What made him want to become a principal? “A desire to have a greater positive impact on a school building.  I enjoy working together as a team to see all students learn and grow.”

Sports Spotlight: Girls Tennis Sports Spotlight: Girls Tennis: “You have to believe in yourself when no one else does.” – Serena Williams   Our first Sports Spotlight is on the girls’ tennis program. There are two girls’ tennis teams at Skaneateles: modified and varsity. Waterman, State Street Students Learn Fire Prevention Tips Waterman, State Street Students Learn Fire Prevention Tips: Members of the Skaneateles Fire Department visited State Street and Waterman this week to teach students important fire prevention tips. Some of the things they went over were the importance of smoke detectors, blowing out candles when leaving a room, and avoiding lighters and matches. Students also reviewed "stop, drop & roll", discussed possible safe places and exit strategies if there was ever a fire at home, and learned about the equipment firefighters use.  
Principal Profile: Patrick Brown Principal Profile: Patrick Brown: In honor of National Principals Month, Skaneateles Central School District will be highlighting one principal every week in a principal profile series. The first principal we are recognizing is Patrick Brown, principal of Waterman Primary School. Brown, a native of Jamesville, NY, has worked at Skaneateles for 17 total years, spending the last four of those as principal. One thing he looks forward to the most every day is seeing students walk through the door! "We have a very vibrant community who certainly wants the very best education for their students," said Brown. "We have really excellent teachers and administrators. Our aides, buildings and grounds folks, custodians and transportation people are also very adept at their jobs. All of these people come together ...

Gary Campbell Appointed as Newest Board of Education Member Gary Campbell Appointed as Newest Board of Education Member: The Skaneateles Board of Education recently appointed Gary Campbell to fill the previously vacant seat during a special meeting on Friday, October 1. Gary and his family have been Skaneateles residents since 2004. Their eldest, Raenah, (class of 2017) just completed her B.Sc. in Nutritional Sciences at Drexel University. Their son Matheu (class of 2021) is a freshman at The University of Columbia, College of Engineering, New York, pursuing a B.Sc. Engineering degree. Maya (class of 2029) is the youngest of the three children and currently attends State Street Intermediate. Gary’s wife, Rhonda Gall-Campbell, teaches sixth grade Science and Social Studies in the Southern Cayuga School District. Gary holds a B.Sc. Middle School Student Council Set to Host Dinosaur Bar-B-Que Fundraiser on Wednesday, October 6 Middle School Student Council Set to Host Dinosaur Bar-B-Que Fundraiser on Wednesday, October 6: On Wednesday, October 6, the Skaneateles Middle School Student Council will host a drive-thru style barbecue dinner fundraiser. For just $12, attendees will receive the following: A choice of Gianelli Sausage sandwich with peppers and onions, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que pulled pork sandwich, or Carolina pulled pork sandwich topped with coleslaw Dinosaur Bar-B-Que style baked beans Coleslaw Chips Soda or water The fundraiser will take place in front of Skaneateles Middle School from 3 p.m. until all food is sold out. 
Middle School Students Conduct Fundraiser for Pet Partners Middle School Students Conduct Fundraiser for Pet Partners: Middle School students recently conducted a fundraiser for Pet Partners, an organization that makes pets into therapy animals. Students had the option to pay $1 to wear a hat all day. Many students also enjoyed taking fun photos with Coco, the District's therapy dog, at lunch! After school, there was a treat raffle and a walk around campus. The day was made possible thanks to the efforts of the Pet Walk Planning Committee. Members of the committee are: Ben Delmonico, M Look, Missy Cundle, Allie Wegbreit, Kristen Combs, Brandon Brooks, Cate Gunderson, Mia Johnson, GiGi Johnson, and Madelynn Schneider.
