High School Parent Night on Thursday:
SKANEATELES, NY (October 4, 2017) – Skaneateles High School’s open house will take place on Thursday, October 5, beginning at 7 p.m.
The annual open house will follow its traditional “daily schedule” format, with parents heading to their child’s homeroom class from 7:00 – 7:10 p.m.
Beginning at 7:13 p.m. parents will move to first period, then follow the remaining daily schedule from there, with each period lasting ten minutes. Parents are reminded to skip their child’s lunch period and simply attend either their fifth or sixth period class.

H.S. Students Explore Clubs, Activities at Fair:
SKANEATELES, NY (October 3, 2017) – A successful Student Club & Activities Fair took place on Tuesday morning in the Skaneateles High School gym featuring more than 30 different clubs and organizations for students to be a part of during the school year.
“The fair gives students a chance to talk to other students that are involved in certain activities and clubs, view displays and demonstrations, and choose to join if they wish,” said Stephen Musso, Director of Student Wellness, Clubs, and Athletics for the Skaneateles Central School district. “We encourage students to use this occasion to explore and learn about the multitude of options that can enrich their high school experience.”

Walk to School Day Oct. 4 Promotes Healthy Living:
SKANEATELES, NY (October 2, 2017) – The Skaneateles Central School District and the Skaneateles Elementary Parent Teacher Committee are excited to take part in International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 4.
Walk to School Day is an annual event that promotes the benefits of walking and bicycling including the importance of physical activity, teaching safe pedestrian and bicycling skills to children, awareness of the walking and cycling community, concern for the environment, reducing traffic congestion, pollution, and speed near schools, as well as sharing time with community leaders, parents, and children.

ELBRIDGE — Around 100 biking volunteers for the 15th Annual Syracuse Ride for Missing Children were greeted by cheering, sign-wielding Elbridge Elementary School students Friday morning.
The students were lined up at the front of the school to support the riders, who also had police escorts and others with them. The cars' blaring police sirens prompted even more bouncing and smiling from the children.

Club & Activities Fair Set for Tuesday in HS:
SKANEATELES, NY (September 26, 2017) – Skaneateles High School will hold its Student Club & Activities Fair in the high school gymnasium on Tuesday, October 3 during first period.
The activities fair is open for freshman, sophomores, and new students featuring a variety of organizations and clubs to choose from and learn more about.
Several exhibits and displays will be on hand as students explore their passion and look to join.

Board Approves Proposition for Project 2021 Vote:
SKANEATELES, NY (September 26, 2017) – On November 14, 2017, residents of the Skaneateles Central School District will be asked to vote on the next capital construction project in the district. At their regular September meeting, the Board of Education unanimously approved the general scope of the project, the not-to-exceed total of $36.5 million, and the appointment of Ashley McGraw architects of Syracuse to complete the design and construction phase. Local resident Edward McGraw will be the project lead for Ashley McGraw.

Scholastic Book Fair Open through September 29:
SKANEATELES, NY (September 26, 2017) – The Scholastic Book Fair is open in the Skaneateles Middle School Library through September 29 from 7:45 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. daily.
The Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings to school the books that kids want to read. The collection includes a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for all reading levels.
The Book Fair will keep special hours on Thursday, September 28 during Parent Information Night at the Middle School, as doors will be open from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. The Parent Teacher Committee will be providing refreshments during this time.

Portion of Homecoming Proceeds to Hurricane Relief:
SKANEATELES, NY (September 26, 2017) – On Saturday, September 16, Skaneateles High School held its annual Homecoming Dance in the high school gymnasium, with a portion of the dance’s proceeds going to help hurricane relief in the United States.
More than 285 students attended the dance, which ran from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m.
The night’s entertainment included a DJ, who invited students to participate in dance contests, provided music of their choice, and glow stick giveaways.
Part of the gym featured a café set-up, several games of corn hole, and the courtyard was opened for students looking to take a break from the action.

H.S. Environmental Club Algal Talk on Oct. 4:
SKANEATELES, NY (September 26, 2017) – The Skaneateles High School Environmental Club will present a talk and panel discussion on the Skaneateles Lake algal bloom on Wednesday, October 4, featuring key speakers and town representatives in the Skaneateles High School Auditorium.
The evening’s program will run from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. with speakers Robert G. Werner Ph.D., Professor Emeritus at SUNY–ESF, as well as Gregory Boyer Ph.D, Professor of Bio Chemistry and Director of the Great Lakes Research Consortium at SUNY–ESF.
Speakers will be followed by a 30-minue panel discussion that will include Skaneateles Town Supervisor Jim Lanning, along with Town Councilors Claire Howard and Constance Brown.

M.S. Student Council BBQ Fundraiser October 4:
SKANEATELES, NY (September 25, 2017) – The Skaneateles Middle School Student Council is set to present its 17 th annual Dinosaur BBQ, Gianelli Sausage Drive-Thru Fundraiser on Wednesday, October 4 beginning at 3 p.m. in front of Skaneateles Middle School.
The day’s menu includes a Gianelli Sausage with peppers and onions, a Dinosaur BBQ pulled pork sandwich, or a Carolina Sandwich with pulled pork topped with coleslaw.
Each dinner choice comes with Dinosaur BBQ style baked beans, coleslaw, chips, and soda or water for only $9.
The fundraiser will run from 3 p.m. until the menu is sold out.

Ride for Missing Children Coming to Middle School:
SKANEATELES, NY (September 25, 2017) – The 21 st annual Ride for Missing Children will make a stop at Skaneateles Middle School on Friday, September 29 at 10:45 a.m.
The annual ride benefits The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children with over 400 riders taking part to honor the memory of all missing children, to raise public awareness of the plight of all missing and exploited children and the need for child safety education, as well as to raise funds to support the mission of the NCMEC.
The ride is a one day, 100-mile bike ride that stops at schools along the route, including Skaneateles Middle School.

Dear Parents and Community Members,
This morning I was able to spend time with state level Department of Health (DOH) officials and the village engineer all of whom explained the local water system, the treatment components involved, the daily testing points including our high school (which is the point of entry of the village water into the district), the testing processes that will be utilized each day until the algae bloom is gone, and the current quality of our drinking water.
In sum, the drinking water is safe. The point at which the reported 0.25 parts per billion( ppb ) of microcystin registered was not found on the line that leads to the district and was located BEFORE the water had reached the ultraviolet and chlorination treatment system that the village uses. Career Exploration Available at Crouse Hospital:
SKANEATELES, NY (September 20, 2017) – Skaneateles Central School students, aged 14-18, are invited to attend Crouse Hospital’s CHOICES program to explore a wide variety of careers in the healthcare industry.
From October through April, CHOICES (Crouse Hospital Offers Innovative Career Exploration for Students) invites students to monthly forums featuring medical professionals who discuss their specialties and take questions.
Each session runs from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., with the first session taking place on Tuesday, October 24.

Superintendent Letter: District Water Levels:
(September 20) - Dear parents and community members - as many of you may have read or heard about this morning, levels of toxins from the algae bloom in Skaneateles Lake have registered in the drinking water for the village and, seemingly, for the school. As noted in the statement below, the levels are within the acceptable range established by the department of health. That said, the Department of Health will be conducting tests on our water today and until we receive definitive results, we are shutting down our drinking fountains and will be supplying bottled water to each of our buildings.
