Prose to Poetry

The student will :

• Compose a descriptive paragraph using specific verbs, singular focus and figurative language;
• Apply knowledge of figurative and sonic devices in word choices;
• Revise and rewrite to create a single focus using vigorous, specific verbs, adjectives, adverbs and nouns;
• Modify prose form and move to poetic form;
• Rearrange words, phrases, and lines for lyric effect;
• Create title using figurative and/or sonic devices;
• Substitute words and phrases;
• Make choices based on personal preference and understanding of poetic form and substance;
• Make judgments with respect to key words for indexing of poem.
