Skaneateles has ties to The Giver

Three Skaneateles eighth graders are in the Auburn Players Community Theatre production of The Giver, directed by Skaneateles Middle School teacher Josh Williams February 11-14 at Bisgrove Theater at Cayuga Community College. Ben Kringer is Asher, Sharla Dart is Rosemary (The Giver’s daughter) and Emma Hall is a "nurturing attendant."

Williams, who teaches 7th and 8th grade language arts, has exposed countless Skaneateles students to the Newberry award winning novel by Lois Lowry over the past decade or more. “About half of the high school student population read the book when they were in middle school with either Andrew Tidd or me,” Williams said. The play is adapted by Eric Coble.

Williams is currently teaching the novel to 7th graders.

All performances will be FREE for all students, thanks to a gofundme campaign and an anonymous donor. The Auburn Players strongly felt that this important work, which is studied in many English classes, should be available to so students could see what they read in the book be brought to life before their eyes.
Performances will be in the Bisgrove Theater at 197 Franklin St Auburn at Cayuga Community College and on February 11, 12, and 13 at 8 p.m. and February 14 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $14 for General admission, $12 for seniors, Tickets will be available at the door.
