Welcome Back Video and Letter from Superintendent Lynda Quick

Dear SCSD Families!

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!  It was wonderful to welcome back our students yesterday, to see them interact with their new teachers, play with their friends, find new classrooms, or even begin in a whole new school.  All summer long, our administrators, custodians, maintenance staff, groundskeepers and teachers have been preparing for this year, and we are happy to have everyone back for the exciting year ahead.

On a personal note, I am excited to begin my second year in the district. This year, we will be working on some new initiatives around our writing curriculum, integrating new state standards into our curriculum, and piloting world languages at the elementary level.  We are also continuing to ensure that our schools are safe, our students have access to mental health curriculum and initiatives, and that our faculty is given the resources and support they need to help each student be challenged and successful.  As always, we are steadfast to our commitment to the four tenets of education in Skaneateles: Learning, Wellness, Readiness, and Stewardship.

You will also begin to see some physical changes on our campus as Project 2021 is in full swing this year. Projects at Waterman were successfully completed over the summer, and later this spring and summer, we will see the construction of a new Middle School gym, the renovation of the High School auditorium and numerous window and heating projects that will make our buildings more energy efficient and cost effective to run.

A few beginning-of-year logistics are still being sorted out, including our bus routes, a few student schedules and our extra-curricular programs. We ask your understanding these first few days of school, and will communicate any changes or improvements as soon as we can.  In particular, we have had several inquiries about our transportation and bus routes.  While some route adjustments have already occurred, we continue to struggle with other issues such as the construction on roads and water lines in the village and town.  Some of that village construction has led to back-ups for our drivers, especially in the afternoon.  We ask for a little bit more patience as we work through these issues, and as drivers learn new pick up locations.  As always, do not hesitate to contact my office, the individual schools, or the bus garage at 315-685-7953, if you have questions or concerns.

In the next couple of weeks, we invite you to the many Parent Nights and Open Houses across the district, beginning next week with the Waterman Parent Night on Wednesday, September 11th and State Street Parent Information Night on Thursday, September 12th. The week ends with the Elementary PTC Ice Cream Social on Friday, followed by our first home Laker Football Game. For information on these and other events, we ask that you consult our website and on-line calendar, or Schedule Galaxy for sports information, for the most up-to-date schedule.

Each school year brings new energy and enthusiasm, and this year has been no exception!  We are excited about the many positive changes that we will see in 2019-2020. I am honored to be the Superintendent of this district that is so committed to excellence in education, and to promoting the exceptional values that shape our students through academic, athletic and extracurricular activities.  Thank you for all that you do to support our district, and I wish everyone a wonderful year!

Sincerely,
Lynda Quick, Superintendent of Schools
