Ride for Missing Children, Apple Picking, World's Largest Pet Walk Part of Busy Friday at SCS

SKANEATELES, NY (October 1, 2018) – Skaneateles Central Schools were buzzing on Friday with a host of activities taking place as part of a busy school day to close out the week.

The 22nd annual Ride for Missing Children took place on Friday morning with riders stopping at Waterman Primary School for a rest, snack and cheers from students before continuing on their journey.

The annual ride benefits The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children with over 400 riders taking part to honor the memory of all missing children, to raise public awareness of the plight of all missing and exploited children and the need for child safety education, as well as to raise funds to support the mission of the NCMEC.

The ride is a one day, 100-mile bike ride that stops at schools along the route, including Waterman Primary School.

Skaneateles High School 9th grade students spent time at Beak & Skiff Apple Orchards on Friday as a part of the Laker Link program.  The Laker Link program sees a senior mentor paired with each incoming freshman student, helping to guide them through their first year in the high school.

The Laker Link mentor program gives freshman an opportunity to discover methods for social and academic success while also learning what to expect and how to prepare for high school.  In the process, the goal is for freshman to expand their circle and make new friends at the same time.

Finally, Skaneateles Middle School students kick started the Pet Partners World’s Largest Pet Walk on Friday with middle school therapy dog, CoCo.

Certified through Pet Partnes, CoCo led students and anyone that wanted to join through the school commons before taking part in the official walk on Saturday at Austin Park.
