School Will Be In Session on Monday, April 2

Dear parents/guardians and community members – as suggested in the February Partnering with Parents newsletter, April 2 will now be a regular school day.

Building our calendar each year requires us to follow state guidelines to ensure that we receive all of our state aid dollars to support our budget. If the rules are not followed, we lose valuable funding that impacts our operations. During this past school year, the State Education Department provided clarification to school dis-tricts regarding how certain days could be used within our calendar. The new rules were expected to be released on March 12 by the Board of Regents, but that decision has been put off until April 10. To ensure that our students are meeting the required number of days and that we receive the state aid that is due to us, April 2, currently planned as a vacation day, will now be a student attendance day.

We apologize for this and other changes that we have had to make this year as we know the inconveniences that are caused.

Finally, this Thursday, March 22, we will hold a community forum in the high school auditorium beginning at 7 PM to discuss safety and security with our schools. After yet another tragic incident in Maryland on Tuesday, refining our plans, processes, and staffing to better ensure the safety of our students and staff continues to be our highest priority. We will discuss each of these areas with you and look forward to continuing our work together for our students wellness, safety, and achievement.
